Upon arriving at the scene, our officers encountered a situation where the dog exhibited aggressive behavior towards one of our officers, necessitating a defensive response. An officer discharged his firearm, resulting in the dog being struck. Subsequently, animal control personnel promptly attended to the injured animal, facilitating its transfer to the Kansas State University Veterinary Services for necessary medical attention.

Following a thorough investigation, it was determined the reporting party was under the influence and the reported dog bite incident involving a child had occurred a year prior. The child was confirmed to be safely sheltered within the residence, unharmed.

We are pleased to report that the dog is currently receiving medical care and is expected to recover from its injuries.

This incident was part of a domestic violence situation.  As such, we are refraining from disclosing further details at this time. We assure the public that we are committed to ensuring the safety and well-being of all residents, including our valued animal companions.
