Manhattan, Kan. -

Officers filed a report for distribution of a controlled substance, aggravated battery, and criminal threat (adulterating or contaminating a beverage) in the 2000 block of College View Rd. in Manhattan on August 26, 2023, at approximately 1:00 a.m. 17-year-old, 18-year-old, and two 19-year-old females were listed as the victims when it was reported an 18-year-old female suspect contaminated their alcoholic beverages with an unknown substance at a party. All four were treated at Via Christi after falling ill. The investigation into this incident is ongoing.

Officers filed a report for theft in the 800 block of Bluemont Ave. in Manhattan on August 26, 2023, at approximately 10:00 a.m. A 21-year-old female was listed as the victim when she reported four metal and four plastic lawn chairs and two plastic tables were stolen from outside her residence. The estimated total loss associated with this case is approximately $500. Anyone with information can contact Crime Stoppers. Darrel Smith, 42 was arrested on August 26, 2023, at approximately 4:15 p.m. on two Riley County District Court warrants for failure to appear. These warrants stem from original charges of violation of the Offender Registration Act and distribution of heroin or certain stimulants. Smith remains confined in the Riley County Jail with a total bond of $200,000.

Officers filed a report for burglary in the 1300 block of Flint Hills Pl. in Manhattan on August 26, 2023, at approximately 5:00 p.m. A 41-year-old female was listed as the victim when it was reported a 31-year-old male suspect stole her Apple iPhone 13 and car keys. The estimated total loss associated with this case is approximately $1,000. These items were eventually returned to the victim.

Officers filed a report for theft in the 700 block of Allen Rd. in Manhattan on August 26, 2023, at approximately 6:00 p.m. A 20-year-old male was listed as the victim when it was reported a 50-gallon reptile take was stolen from outside his residence. The estimated total loss associated with this case is approximately $500. Anyone with information can contact Crime Stoppers. Michael Westgate, 43, of Manhattan was arrested on August 27, 2023, at approximately 2:00 a.m. on a Riley County District Court warrant for failure to appear. This warrant stems from an original charge of burglary. Westgate remains confined in the Riley County Jail with a total bond of $8,000.

Aaron Finch, 36, of Manhattan was arrested on August 27, 2023, at approximately 3:00 a.m. for two counts of aggravated assault after it was reported he pulled a knife on 20- and 25-year-old men in the 2000 block of Tuttle Creek Blvd. Finch remains confined in the Riley County Jail with a total bond of $20,000.

Officers filed a report for criminal damage to property and theft in the 900 block of S. Collins Ln. in Manhattan on August 27, 2023, at approximately 11:30 a.m. A 63-year-old man was listed as the victim when it was reported a 39-year-old male suspect slashed a tire on two of his vehicles and a trailer. The estimated total loss associated with this case is approximately $1,500.

Officers filed a report for theft in the 1500 block of Oxford Pl. in Manhattan on August 27, 2023, at approximately 2:15 p.m. A 39-year-old female was listed as the victim when it was reported $2,100 of cash was stolen from her apartment. Makia Harris, 34, of Manhattan was arrested on August 27, 2023, at approximately 4:30 p.m. on a Riley County District Court warrant for probation violation. This warrant stems from original charges of intimidation of a witness, battery, and two counts of criminal damage to property. Harris was issued a total bond of $7,500 and is no longer confined at the time of this report.

Officers filed a report for theft in the 1000 block of Moro St. in Manhattan on August 27, 2023, at approximately 7:00 p.m. A 41-year-old man was listed as the victim when it was reported his gray Specialized bicycle was stolen from outside his apartment. The estimated total loss associated with this case is approximately $500. Anyone with information can contact Crime Stoppers.
