The Riley County Police Department along with the Kansas Highway Patrol conducted a sobriety checkpoint in the early morning hours of August 24, 2014 in the 1500 block of Poyntz Ave. in Manhattan KS.  The checkpoint was designed to identify impaired drivers and remove them from the roadway.

Two hundred twenty-six (226) vehicles were stopped in the checkpoint between the hours of 11:45 PM and 2:30 AM. Thirteen (13) drivers were evaluated for impaired driving and of those, two (2) were arrested for DUI.  There were five (5) cited for Transporting an Open Container of Alcohol and one (1) for Minor in Possession of Alcohol.  Five additional subjects were arrested for Possession of a Controlled Substance.

The Riley County Police Department would like to thank the Kansas Highway Patrol for their assistance during the check lane and those drivers who chose to drive sober.
