On Wednesday May 28, 2014, members of the Riley County Police Department met with members of the Geary County Sheriff’s Office as well as the Junction City Police Department in order to formally give thanks to two area police officers.
Lieutenant Justin Stopper of the Geary County Sheriff’s Office and Police Officer Nick Blake of the Junction City Police Department were both recognized by RCPD for their initiative in apprehending a suspect in an aggravated battery with a firearm investigation. This arrest stemmed from a shooting at a convenience store located at 2233 Tuttle Creek Blvd. in Manhattan, Kansas on May 7, 2014.
At approximately 1:04 PM on May 7, 2014 the Riley County Police Department received an emergency call for service regarding a single gunshot victim and a suspect who had fled the scene. Police officers in surrounding jurisdictions were notified of a suspect’s description as well as a vehicle description which was supplied by witnesses. At approximately 1:22 PM, RCPD was informed that law enforcement officers in Geary County, near the 315 mile marker of I-70, had located a vehicle matching the description given. Ultimately as a result of these officers initiative and dedication an arrest was made on the 19-year-old male suspect.
The Riley County Police Department would like to formally thank these officers for their immediate assistance in apprehending this dangerous subject. Certificates of Appreciation were given to both Stopper and Blake by Police Investigations Lieutenant Mark French on behalf of the Riley County Police Department.
