When we get behind the wheel, we are taking on a responsibility that is rarely unmatched. Driving has become a major part of day to day life for many of us and this responsibility is often taken for granted. Distractions while driving are many and we must all do our part to keep our eyes on the road and "Just Drive."

On January 20, 2014 at approximately 2:00 PM, the Riley County Police Department was made aware of a vehicle that was located in the Tuttle Cove Park north of Manhattan. This vehicle was registered and used by a female who was reported missing by the Pottawatomie County Sheriff’s Office and this new information initiated a foot search of the area. Between the hours of 2:00 PM and dark on January 20, 2014, several emergency services personnel searched the area, however, they were unsuccessful in locating the missing woman attached to the vehicle, Jane Peterson, 56, of St. George.

On January 16, 2014 at approximately 10:18AM RCPD Dispatch received a 911 call in reference to an individual injured at a logging job site located in the 1900 block of Collins Lane. The 1900 block of Collins Lane is located within Riley County, Kansas just a couple miles south of Manhattan.

The days of waiting for information is quickly becoming part of our past and in redesigning our website we took this concept into consideration. By adding an RSS Feed to our website, we have helped to bridge the gap between the information we wish to distribute and the community that we serve. We have worked with local news agencies to ensure that our new practices help to make their jobs easier as well and thank them for their cooperation throughout our "beta" test.

The Riley County Police Department and the Manhattan Riley County Crime Stoppers are taking crime tips submission to the next level and are encouraging members of the public with smart phones or tablets to download and use a free mobile phone/tablet app to assist local authorities in stopping and deterring crime in the Riley County area. This app, “TipSubmit,” can be found in the iTunes App Store and the Android Market.
