The Riley County Police Department along with the Kansas Highway Patrol conducted a sobriety checkpoint in the early morning hours of August 25, 2013 in the 300 Block of Bluemont Ave. in Manhattan KS. The checkpoint was designed to identify impaired drivers and remove them from the roadway.

Three hundred and forty-five (345) vehicles were stopped in the checkpoint between the hours of 0020 and 0245 hrs. Of those, five (5) subjects were arrested. Twenty-four (24) drivers were evaluated for impaired driving and of those, five (5) were arrested for DUI. There was an additional subject cited for Minor in Consumption of Alcohol and two subjects (2) for Transporting an Open Container of Alcohol. One additional subject was cited for Possession of a Controlled Substance.
