The Riley County Police Department along with the Kansas Highway Patrol and Kansas State University Police Department conducted a sobriety checkpoint in the early morning hours of August 17, 2013 in the 2000 Block of Kimball Ave. in Manhattan KS.  The checkpoint was designed to identify impaired drivers and remove them from the roadway.

Two hundred and sixty-two (262) vehicles were stopped in the checkpoint between the hours of 0015 and 0230 hrs.  Of those, ten (10) subjects were arrested.  Seventeen (17) drivers were evaluated for impaired driving and of those, nine (9) were arrested for DUI.  There were an additional five (5) subjects cited for Minor in Consumption of Alcohol and three (3) for Transporting an Open Container of Alcohol.  One additional subject was cited for Possession of a Controlled Substance and Driving While Suspended.
