The Riley County Police Department along with the Kansas Highway Patrol conducted a sobriety checkpoint in the early morning hours of August 25, 2013 in the 300 Block of Bluemont Ave. in Manhattan KS. The checkpoint was designed to identify impaired drivers and remove them from the roadway.

August 22, 2013

On Saturday August 24, 2013, the Riley County Police Department will conduct a sobriety checkpoint in the Manhattan area. The checkpoint is scheduled to run into the early hours of Sunday August 25, 2013.

The purpose of the checkpoint is to detect and deter impaired drivers. Those motorists suspected of impairment will be given on-site sobriety field tests. Confirmed impaired drivers will be arrested. Efforts will be made to not severely interrupt traffic flow, but many drivers will be stopped briefly as part of this checkpoint.

August 19, 2013

In the early morning hours of August 18, 2013, the Riley County Police Department responded to a battery in the South Central portion of Manhattan, Kansas. A female victim jogging alone was stopped by an unknown male subject. This male, with unknown intentions, battered the victim who was ultimately able to escape with minor injury.

The Riley County Police Department along with the Kansas Highway Patrol and Kansas State University Police Department conducted a sobriety checkpoint in the early morning hours of August 17, 2013 in the 2000 Block of Kimball Ave. in Manhattan KS.  The checkpoint was designed to identify impaired drivers and remove them from the roadway.

August 15, 2013

The Riley County Police Department and the Kansas State University Police Department are cautioning the K-State community and the general public about walking alone at night after a sexual assault was reported in the early morning hours of August 11, 2013. It was reported that a rape occurred in Manhattan near campus by an unknown suspect. This case is currently under investigation by RCPD.

The Citizen's Police Academy is a 20-hour course that provides you with an opportunity to learn about the role of the police in making our community a better place to live. The Citizen's Police Academy is open to individuals from our community who are interested in learning more about how our police department operates. During the academy, citizens get an exclusive behind the scenes look at many aspects of the police department. They also learn about the laws and statutes that govern police actions.
