On August 31, 2012 at approximately 11:00 p.m. and into the early morning hours of September 1, 2012 officers from the Riley County Police Department, Kansas Highway Patrol and the Kansas State University Police Department conducted a DUI check lane in the 2000 Block of Kimball avenue in Manhattan.
While the check lane was operable 570 vehicles passed through. Of the 570 vehicles that passed through six drivers were found to operating while intoxicated and were arrested. Two persons under the age of 21 were found to be possessing alcohol and cited and one person was cited for transporting an open container. The check lane was funded by a grant received from the Kansas Department of Transportation and was supported by members of the Breath Alcohol Unit from the Kansas Highway Patrol.
