The Riley County Police Department along with members of the Manhattan Fire Department, Riley County EMS, and other agencies and organizations in the area to include Life Star, will be participating in an emergency services educational training exercise on Friday, April 25, 2014. Poyntz Ave. will be closed to traffic from Sunset to Oak Drive from approximately 7:45 AM until 10:30 AM.

On April 16, 2014 at 10:06 PM, the Riley County Police Department received a report of an armed robbery which had occurred at Dollar General located at 2321 Tuttle Creek Blvd., Manhattan, Kansas.
Information at this point is preliminary; however employees of the store described the suspect as: A black male, just under 6 feet tall, who was wearing a red sweatshirt and a ball cap with the American Flag spread across the bill. The suspect was armed with a black semi-automatic handgun.

The Riley County Police Department will celebrate National Public Safety Telecommunications Week April 14 - 20, 2014 to recognize the dispatchers who work behind the scenes to answer calls for help every day. The Department employs many highly trained and dedicated Emergency Medical 911 dispatchers. These dispatchers are on duty 24 hours a day, every day of the year and often miss holidays and events with their families.

Police and Fire Officials for the Manhattan and Riley County area will be teaming up on March 28, 2014 from 6:00 PM to Midnight as they participate in a social media event dubbed “#FIRECOP.”
The Riley County Police Department will be trading their own #TwitterCop for the tweeting Fire Fighter of the Manhattan Fire Department during this 6 hour tweet along event. Both participants will be tweeting about their experience using the hashtag “#FIRECOP.” The two will also be interacting with the public and each other during this emergency services job swap.

Beginning on March 25, 2014, the Riley County Police Department will begin its spring session of the Citizen Police Academy. RCPD 101 is a condensed version of the normal Fall Citizen Academy and offers a down and dirty look at RCPD, in an entertaining and hands on way. Applications are being accepted until March 20th at 1:00 PM.

On the weekend of March 7, 2014 to March 9, 2014, the Riley County Police Department with assistance from the Junction City Police Department, Emporia Police Department, Pottawatomie County Sheriff’s Office, Lyon County Sheriff’s Office, Hays Police Department and the Kansas Highway Patrol responded to several calls for service in relation to the Fake Patty’s Day 2014 event. Other emergency agencies were also present and responded to calls for service as well as participated in proactive safety measures. These agencies included the Manhattan Fire Department and Riley County EMS.

On Saturday, March 8, 2014, the Riley County Police Department will establish and maintain a Command Post at the Manhattan City Park Pavilion in regards to the annual Fake Patty’s Day. This Command Post as well as the Public Information Officer for the Riley County Police Department will host periodic news media briefings or press conferences throughout the day.
