It is also home to the Riley County Police Department, a consolidated law enforcement agency that services the entire county and City of Manhattan. Here are a few resources that might be beneficial to you as you make this area your home. We've also included a few ways to be social with the Riley County Police Department.

The Riley County Police Department is proud to announce the recipient of the 2015 annual RCPD Scholarship Award. Alexis McCormick, the daughter of Lt. Mark French, was awarded this $500.00 scholarship in May of this year after a selection process conducted throughout the spring. She will be attending Kansas State University in the fall.

Winter break and holiday vacation season is upon us and that means vacant or unoccupied homes in our community. The Riley County Police Department would like to remind the community of a few tips to help reduce your risk of becoming a victim of crime while away from your home over the next month.

The Riley County Police Department employs several certified car seat education and installation technicians and routinely conducts car seat check lanes in the Manhattan and Riley County area. These check lanes are located at the Manhattan Fire Department Headquarters every Tuesday from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM and by utilizing this free service you can learn firsthand how to properly install a child restraint in your vehicle. These check lanes are made possible because of the collaboration of RCPD, RCEMS and Riley County Child Resource Center as well as the Manhattan Fire Department.

The Riley County Police Department is proud to announce the recipient of the second annual RCPD Scholarship Award. Abbie Boyda, the daughter of Lt. Steve Boyda and Dispatch Supervisor Kim Boyda as well as Brian and Jennifer Keller, was awarded this $500.00 scholarship in April of this year after a selection process conducted throughout the months prior. She is currently attending school in Nebraska for X-Ray and CT Radiography as well as Imaging Informatics. She plans to graduate from this higher education in August of 2015.

In short, scams are designed to gain trust and they prey upon this trust, taking advantage of community members. The Manhattan and Riley County area is fortunate that these cases are not at an epidemic level, however every once in a while the Riley County Police Department is made aware of a potential scam or two. Some of these scams have even created loss or identity theft and can often times be tough for law enforcement to solve.
