The first step in the hiring process is to complete an application. However, for most positions at the Riley County Police Department, there is a timed typing test requirement as well. This is a test that you schedule with your local Workforce Center.

If you need assistance locating a place to take the typing test in your area, please contact our Human Resource Technician.
Police Officer & Correction Officer - 16 wpm, net (once errors are subtracted)
Clerical, Evidence and other designed positions - 40 wpm, net (once errors are subtracted).
Dispatcher - 60 wpm, net (once errors are subtracted). Typing tests over 40 wpm, net will be considered.
NOTE: If you have previously submitted a typing test for another position, it is not necessary to go retake the typing test if the testing results meet the requirements for the position for which you are now applying. However, you will need to contact our Human Resource Technician and let her know when and where you took your previous test so it can be pulled from that hiring process.
